GCPF Enters Bosnia and Herzegovina to Expand Green Lending Through Partner Microcredit Company

Zurich, 21 July 2026 The Global Climate Partnership Fund (GCPF), a climate-focused blended finance fund managed by Swiss impact asset manager responsAbility, has entered into cooperation with Partner Microcredit Company (Partner MCC), a non-deposit taking microfinance institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the provision of a committed senior unsecured debt facility. The transaction marks GCPF’s entry into Bosnia and Herzegovina through its first partnership with a local financial institution.

Partner MCC is fully owned by Partner Microcredit Foundation, one of the leading MFI groups in the country. Building on the Partner Group’s long-standing track record in microfinance and green lending, Partner MCC is recognised as a leader in energy-efficiency lending in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with green loans representing a significant share of Partner MCC’s portfolio and a strategic ambition to further scale this segment.

GCPF’s cooperation with Partner MCC started with this recent transaction through the provision of a committed senior unsecured debt facility. In parallel, other funds managed by responsAbility have also engaged with Partner MCC, supporting the institution’s broader lending activities for households, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Expanding Access to Green Finance

The GCPF facility is structured to support Partner MCC in further expanding its green-lending activities, with a focus on energy-efficiency investments and the gradual scaling of small solar PV financing. It is expected to help the institution increase its green portfolio, strengthen the institutionalisation of green lending across the organisation, and further develop its capacity to finance renewable-energy solutions for households, MSMEs and selected business segments.

The proceeds of the GCPF facility will finance eligible sub-loans in high-potential green segments, primarily energy-efficiency housing improvements, energy-efficient home appliances, and small solar PV systems for retail and MSME borrowers. These investments are expected to generate measurable energy savings and CO2 emission reductions, while helping Partner MCC further scale its already established green-lending portfolio.

As GCPF’s first Partner Institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Partner MCC will support GCPF’s market-building efforts in the country and contribute to the further development of green lending within the Bosnian microfinance sector.

Supporting the Development of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Climate Finance Market

Climate finance in Bosnia and Herzegovina has so far been strongly supported by international development financiers and EU-backed programmes, with most green lending activity concentrated in energy-efficiency investments for the housing sector. Renewable-energy lending, including small solar PV financing, remains at an earlier stage but is increasingly becoming relevant as regulatory frameworks improve and energy costs create stronger incentives for households and businesses to invest in efficiency and self-generation.

With GCPF’s financial and technical support, currently under preparation, Partner MCC is expected to play an important role in expanding access to green finance for households, micro-enterprises and SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, helping create long-term environmental and economic value.
